Twice champion Gesa Krause is targeting a fifth European 3000m steeplechase medal in Birmingham this summer.
The German runner, who won gold in Amsterdam 2016 and Berlin 2018, as well as silver in Rome 2024 and bronze in Helsinki 2012, still has medal ambitions in the discipline despite recent outings on the roads.
“I would be absolutely satisfied with a personal best and a European Championship medal,” she told Sportschau. “I feel like I'm not quite finished with the steeplechase yet. I feel like I still have potential there, and I'm simply very curious to see how far I can go.”
Personal bests
Krause is one of Europe’s outstanding steeplechasers of the modern era, having also won two bronze medals at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing 2015 and Doha 2019, adding to her prolific continental success.
Already this year, the 33-year-old Krause has set two personal bests on the roads, clocking 15:22 for 5km in Monaco and 68:59 at the Berlin Half Marathon.
