A panel of experts have shortlisted four logos for online public voting that starts today and is open until 6March on the official website of the championships www.helsinki2012.org. The official event logo and the name of the winner will be announced in late March.
“European Athletics Championships is one of the biggest sports events in Europe, so we decided to go online and launch a European wide design competition for the official logo. This idea matches the theme of the championships – technology and environment – and the fame of Helsinki as a design city. We have received an overwhelming response from across Europe that is ample proof of the popularity of the event,” said Esa Honkalehto, the general secretary of Helsinki 2012.
Boblr.com is an open source website that attracts the best professional designers looking for interesting design projects.
“For creative designers boblr.com is a way to show their work to international brands, which otherwise could be out of reach. This is an excellent mode of work, especially for projects like logo design,” said Jussi Turhala, the partner of Kapina, the official design agency for Helsinki 2012.
Over 350 million people from across the world are expected to watch the championships on television and internet.
“In addition to the visibility, an award of €5,000 and a fine career reference are waiting for the winner of the contest,” said Honkalehto.
All voters will automatically be entered into a draw for a VIP ticket package for Helsinki 2012.
