For the third time in the space of a week, European champion Kristjan Ceh broke the 72 metre-barrier in the discus.
One weekend after recording throws of 72.34m and 72.11m on back-to-back days, Ceh eclipsed his Slovenian record on home soil in Slovenska Bistrica with another massive throw of 72.36m, the ninth longest discus throw in history.
Ceh will be competing on home soil again at next month’s European Athletics Team Championships 2nd Division which will be held in Maribor.
Slovenia just missed out on promotion two years ago in Silesia by half-a-point despite Ceh winning maximum points for his country in the discus with a championship record of 69.94m.
7.06m for Iapichino in Palermo
In her first competition of the outdoor season, Larissa Iapichino achieved her first ever seven metre-jump in the long jump.
The European indoor champion bounded out to a lifetime best of 7.06m in Palermo on Saturday (31) afternoon, the longest outdoor jump in the world this year.
Iapichino becomes just the second Italian to break the seven metre-line. The national record is famously held by her mother Fiona May who jumped 7.11m at the 1998 European Athletics Championships in Budapest.
In Rieti on Saturday, world indoor champion Mattia Furlani jumped 8.31m in the long jump.
