World record-holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh triumphed in Tokyo on Sunday (18), a feat she will be seeking to replicate in September when the World Athletics Championships take place in the Japanese capital.
The Ukrainian Olympic, World and European champion banked a routine victory in the women’s high jump at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix with a first time clearance of 1.96m. It was the her fourth successive victory in four weekends, maintaining her unbeaten run in the outdoor season.
Fabbri back to winning ways
Another European champion, Leonardo Fabbri of Italy, got back to winning ways at the Neustädt Shot Put Cup with a best of 20.79m on Sunday (18).
The Roma 2024 gold medallist had a disappointing indoor season, being eliminated in the qualifying round at the Apeldoorn 2025 European Indoor Championships and placing fourth in the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing and will be aiming to rebuild his year from this victory.
Dutch duo Rolvink and Van Daalen impress again
There were also several other notable throws performances across the weekend. The Netherlands’ Ruben Rolvink is shaping up for a breakthrough season. The 22-year-old launched the discus to 66.10m in Naaldwijk on Sunday (18), further improving his personal best he set four weeks earlier in Amsterdam.
His Dutch team mate Alida Van Daalen continues to impress, the 23-year-old landed the discus at 65.24m in Lexington, USA as she looks set to make an impression in the senior ranks this summer.
Hungary’s Zsombor Dobo also announced himself as a contender for August’s Tampere 2025 European Athletics U20 Championships with a national U20 record throw of 65.10m (1.75kg implement) in Budapest on Saturday (17).
Plus, there was also a significant improvement from four-time national champion Patrick Hajek of Czechia who threw 78.20m in Nove Mesto Nad Metuji on Sunday (18).
On the track, Belgium’s Jana Van Lent, who was recently fifth in the women’s 10km at the European Running Championships, improved the 5000m national record to 15:02.75 in Brussels on Sunday (18).
