European U20 and U23 champion Audrey Werro ran a phenomenal 1:56.29 to win the 800m title at the Swiss Championships in Frauenfeld on Sunday (24) afternoon.
Leading every step of the way through 400m in 56.64 and 600m in 1:26.61, Werro slashed almost a full second from her previous Swiss record of 1:57.25 set earlier this season in Bydgoszcz.
With the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo just under three weeks away, the 21-year-old moves to second on the 2025 world list behind Keely Hodgkinson who has clocked 1:54.74 and 1:55.69 this season.
Making the most of Werro’s unofficial pacemaking, Lore Hoffmann and Veronica Vancardo finished second and third with lifetime bests of 1:58.29 and 1:59.10 respectively.
European indoor and outdoor champion Angelica Moser also excelled with a 4.80m clearance to win the pole vault before three attempts at a prospective national record of 4.89m.
After a 13.16 heat, Jason Joseph won the 110m hurdles title in 13.27 ahead of Simon Ehammer with 13.59. Ehammer also won the long jump title with 8.05m as he prepares for the decathlon in Tokyo.
Other highlights included Salome Kora winning the women’s 100m in 11.10 and Lionel Spitz returning to form with victory in the men’s 400m in 45.24.
Season’s best for Skrzyszowska at Polish Championships
Pia Skrzyszowska set a season’s best of 12.59 to win the 100m hurdles title at the Polish Championships in Bydgoszcz, beating recently crowned European U23 champion Alicja Sielska in 12.93.
Polish hammer legends Pawel Fajdek and Anita Wlodarczyk both added another domestic title to their collections, winning with 79.07m and 70.66m respectively.
European 400m champion and Olympic bronze medallist Natalia Bukowiecka dropped down in distance to win the 200m title in 23.20, leaving the path clear for 2018 European champion Justyna Swiety-Ersetic to win the 400m in 52.67.
Other highlights included Cyprian Mrzyglod winning the javelin with 84.39m and Kinga Królik winning the 3000m steeplechase in 9:24.92 just ahead of Alicja Konieczek in 9:26.12.
