Danish 800m runner Wilson Kipketer will be one of the main lecturers in the Speed Endurance Conference held on 22–24 November 2013 in Pajulahti Sport Institute, Nastola, Finland. Kipketer won three IAAF World Championship gold medals in a row and claimed 13 world records during his career.

The theme of the conference is Modern Concepts of Speed Endurance Training and it will be organised in co-operation with European Athletics, Finnish Athletics Federation (FAF), KIHU - Research Institute for Olympic Sports, Ministry of Education and Culture and Pajulahti Sports Institute.

Kipketer was born in Kenya and he moved to Denmark in the 1990s, where he studied at Copenhagen University and got married. He won a combined 8 medals at the Olympic Games and World Championships and one European Athletics Championships gold medal between 1995 and 2004. His world record remained unbeaten until the great David Rudisha broke his record.

Kipketer takes the leading role on Sunday, the last day of the three-day conference, when he first gives a two-hour lecture and one-hour demonstration about his own career and training. After his lecture, he will participate in a 90-minute panel discussion lead by Lasse Mikkelsson, General Manager of the Pajulahti Sports Institute.

Among other participants in Sunday’s panel discussion are Natalia Antyukh and her coach Ekaterina Kulikova, the Russian Olympic gold medallist in the women’s 400m hurdles in London 2012, and Ronald Bergman, who is the coach of Moa Hjelmer, who won a gold medal in the women’s 400m at the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki 2012.

In addition to international guests there are many Finnish coaches and researchers who specialise in speed endurance, e.g. Petteri Jouste, Antti Mero, Ari Nummela and Juha Sainio, who is the coach of Ella Rí¤sí¤nen, who broke the women’s under-20 400m European indoor record this year.

Along with lectures and panel discussions the three-day conference includes practical demonstrations, which among other things give more information about the training of Antyukh and Hjelmer. The conference language will be English.
