  • World decathlon best! 8.51m long jump for Ehammer in Götzis

Simon Ehammer smashed his world decathlon long jump best at the Götzis Hypo-Meeting on Saturday (30) morning.

The world indoor heptathlon champion and record-holder already had ownership of the record with 8.45m from this meeting in 2022 but Ehammer added six centimetres to his record with a massive second round jump of 8.51m for 1194 points.

As well as being an improvement on his world decathlon best, Ehammer’s mark was also a world lead, displacing Miltiadis Tentoglou’s mark of 8.49m which was set yesterday evening in Limassol in Cyprus.

Ehammer won bronze behind Tentoglou in the long jump at the 2024 European Athletics Championships in Rome but the Swiss has outlined that the decathlon remains his foremost focus at the 2026 European Athletics  Championships in Birmingham from 10-16 August.
