Lithuania’s Mykolas Alekna and Australia’s Matthew Denny will go head-to-head again in the discus at the Golden Oval in Dresden, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting, on 1 June.
Alekna broke his world record in Ramona, Oklahoma last weekend with 75.56m to become the first male athlete in history to break the 75 metre-barrier in the event while Denny also surpassed the previous record in finishing second with 74.78m.
The Golden Oval will be streamed live on the European Athletics website with more details about the streaming schedule for European events which are part of the 2025 World Athletics Continental Tour to be communicated in upcoming weeks.
A strong German contingent will also be competing in the men’s discus including Clemens Prufer, Daniel Jasinski and Henrik Janssen, the winner of the European Throwing Cup in Nicosia last month.
The field events will remain in the spotlight with three reigning Olympic champions already confirmed for the Golden Oval.
Home favourite Yemisi Ogunleye and Valarie Allman from the United States are confirmed for the shot put and discus respectively while 2020 Olympic champion and reigning European champion Malaika Mihambo is due to compete in the long jump.
On the track, four members of Germany’s bronze medal-winning team in the 4x100m from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games - Alexandra Burghardt, Rebekka Haase, Sophia Junk and Lisa Mayer - will compete individually in the 100m along with Tokyo 2020 Olympic finalist Teahna Daniels from the United States.
