Ukraine’s world record holder, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, and fellow European indoor champion, Oleh Doroshchuk, will open their seasons at the Demianiuk Memorial in Lviv on Saturday (17).

Doroshchuk opened his season at this event in 2024 and 2025 and saw great success from those years, so he will be hoping this new tradition will continue to bring him further medals.

The pair may also be targeting the Kujawy Pomorze 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships in March as they both build up to an exciting outdoor season.

Mahuchikh, despite her success in the outdoor circuit, has been unable to take back her title of World indoor champion after winning in 2022, placing second in 2024, and third in 2025.

The 24-year-old world record holder could also take her third-straight outdoor European title this summer at Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships, adding to her endless list of accolades.

Whereas Doroshchuk is yet to medal at a world championship, indoors or outdoors, so would be looking to make his debut on a world podium when the competition goes to Poland.

But, the reigning European indoor champion could add the outdoor title to his collection after narrowly missing out on a medal in Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships due to count back.
