Olympic champion and world record-holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh stayed on course for her third successive title by easing through the women’s high jump qualifying round at the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships on Thursday (13).

The Ukrainian icon was the last to enter the competition and with first time clearances at 1.88m and then at 1.91m, she booked her place in Saturday’s (15) final.
She will be joined there by world silver medallist Maria Zodzik of Poland, who had first-time clearances at 1.80m, 1.84m, 1.88m and 1.91m to progress. European silver medallist and world bronze medallist Angelina Topic of Serbia is also through after posting an identically flawless card to Zodzik.
Javelin champions through
In the men's javelin, Roma 2024 champion Jakub Vadlejch and Munich 2022 champion Julian Weber are set to resume their European Athletics Championships rivalry in Saturday's (15) final after both navigated Thursday's qualifiers.
Czech Vadlejch threw 80.92m on his first attempt, which was enough to qualify and Germany's Weber topped the overall qualifers with an impressive first round throw of 84.02m.
