World silver medallist Amanal Petros will compete in his third marathon of the year when he lines up in Valencia on Sunday 7 December.
The German took silver in Tokyo after he was pipped by 0.03 in a thrilling sprint finish by Tanzania’s Alphonce Felix Simbu after they were both timed at 2:09:48. He also competed at the London Marathon in April, where he placed eighth.
In recognition of his achievement in Tokyo, he was awarded the ‘Golden Badge of Honour with Ruby’ from the Lower Saxony Athletics Association and was inducted into the association's Wall of Fame on Monday (6).
As well as unveiling Petros in the elite field, Valencia Marathon event organisers also confirmed Samuel Fitwi who set the German record of 2:04:56 in the same event last year.

Meanwhile the women’s field includes 3000m steeplechaser Gesa-Felicitas Krause making her marathon debut. The German athlete is a former European champion (2016 and 2018) and twice world bronze medallist (2015 and 2019).
Other significant European names to be announced include French record-holder Mekdes Woldu (2:23:13) and British internationals Charlotte Purdue and Rose Harvey.
