Polish star and world U20 decathlon record holder, Hubert Troscianka, will open his season indoors in Spala, Poland, on 11 January.

The European U20 champion, who set a world U20 record of 8514 in winning gold in Tampere last year, will compete in the 60m hurdles and pole vault, of which his personal bests stand at 7.83 and 4.80m respectively.

Since setting the new record, the spotlight has turned more onto Troscianka, who was named European Athletics’ Rising Star award at the Golden Tracks gala after becoming the first teenage decathlete to break 8500 points.

But his journey to becoming a world record holder was far from linear, with a series of injuries to his knee, achilles and elbow, but the resilient Pole came through in brilliant style in Tampere.

With Poland also hosting the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Kujawy Pomorze (Torun) on March 20-22, Troscianka’s outing in Spala may point to a step towards the global senior stage in his home country in two months’ time.
