The winner of the female Rising Star at the European Athlete of the Year awards is impossible to predict because of the standard that has been set in 2013.
And not until the moment their name is announced on Saturday night in Tallinn will anyone be the wiser as to who will win because of the quality which has emerged throughout the year.
Anita Hinriksdottir, of Iceland, is one of the main contenders after a summer where she created her own piece of history.
She won the 800m crown at the European Athletics Junior Championships in Rieti, a week after winning Iceland's first ever global gold medal when she triumphed at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Donetsk.
Rieti produced some outstanding performances from Europe's young stars such as Emelia Gorecka, 19, of Great Britain.
She won the 3000m at the European Athletics Junior Championships to show her versatility no matter the season. In December, she had been crowned silver medallist at the European Athletics Cross Country Championships in Budapest and also left with a gold medal as part of the team's success.
Türkiye's Emel Dereli and Belgium's Nafissatou Thiam both achieved national records in their events with brilliant performances.
Dereli, 17, won the shot put with 18.04m and Thiam, now 19, took the heptathlon crown with 6298 and it was in the multi-events where another of the favourites for the Rising Star award has come this year.
Dafne Schippers, of the Netherlands, put herself at the forefront of the contenders for the with a superb series of successes.
In July she won the 100m and finished third in long jump at the European Athletics Under-23 Championships in Tampere and then progressed to bronze in the heptathlon at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow with a national record of 6477.
Serbian Amela Terzic, 20, was equally outstanding in Tampere as she won the 1500m in 4:05.69 having beaten Gorecka to gold back in December at those European Athletics Cross Country Championships.
To discover who will win the Female Rising Star, the awards take place on Saturday night and Estonian Television (ETV) will have an hour-long European Athletics Awards Night programme from 19:10 local time that will be made available to European Broadcasting Union Members and also streamed live at http://otse.err.ee/etv/.
