Alongside International Partners SPAR, OMEGA, LE GRUYˆRE AOC, UBS and EUROVISION, many renowned brands have already agreed partnerships: Erdgas, Implenia, and Toyota as National Partners, and Victorinox, Habegger (Technical Services), Securitas and Zurich Airport (National Suppliers).
To date, 20 sponsoring agreements have been signed (5 international partners, 7 national partners, and 8 national suppliers).
'Further partnerships are in the pipeline,' said Zurich 2014 Marketing Director Christoph Joho. 'Thanks to an overwhelming echo, we can assume that we will exceed our initial goals with regard to sponsoring.'
The Zurich 2014 European Athletics Championships will take place 12-17 August.
Zurich 2014 has further intensified its cooperation with public authorities and services. The Swiss Confederation (represented by the Federal Office of Sport) will contribute 3.3 million Swiss francs to the organisation of the championships. This amount will help reduce the deficit guarantee approved by the Canton and the City of Zurich.
In addition, the Federal Office of Sport is supporting the national federation Swiss Athletics with special annual contributions of 600,000 Swiss francs from 2011 to 2014 in order to promote projects in the area of professional sport, sports for all, and athletics youth programmes.
Talks with representatives of the Swiss army and civil protection services have resulted in a commitment to support the Zurich 2014 service providers. The civil protection services of the Canton of Zurich will provide a large number of staff to strengthen the championship team primarily during events staged in the streets of the city.
The promoters will discuss and specify possible services to be provided by the Swiss army on the occasion of a site visit in May.
The composition of the Zurich 2014 Honorary Board illustrates very broad support from Swiss public institutions.
Hansruedi Müller, CEO of the Leichtathletik EM 2014 AG, said, 'A major event, such as Zurich 2014, could simply not be organised without the support of public institutions. It is essential that the authorities are as much convinced as we are that the championships, Zurich, and Switzerland go well together. And that they feel that Zurich 2014 is an event worth supporting. Fortunately, this has been the case.'
