This year was the year that many people finally became familiar with the incredible Audrey Werro as she stunned time and time again on the track, going third all time over 800m.
But here are 10 things you may not know about the Swiss star and reigning European champion.
Incredible junior career
For some, it may seem that Werro has appeared out of nowhere, but as a junior she impressed time and time again.
In 2021 she took the European U20 title at just 17-years-old, before two-years later going to successfully defend her title, a feat rarely achieved at the U20 championships.
Werro, in that time, also took silver at the 2022 world U20 championships where she went sub-two for the first time with 1:59.53.
Last year she also took the European U23 title in Bergen in 1:57.42 at 21-years-old to end her junior career on a high.
Standing tall
With beautifully long strides, it is clear that Werro is taller than many of her competitors, and at five foot nine she often does stand above others on the start line.
Her height helps make her runs look effortless, much like the Dutch star she recently beat in Ostrava, Femke Broeders-Bol.
Dabbled in the 400m
The Swiss star is also highly competitive over 400m, running her PB of 50.80 earlir this year in July at the Swiss Championships.
She also made up part of the Swiss 4x400m team that placed seventh at the Bergen 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships.
Long term coach partnership
Werro started the sport at nine-years-old after her school teacher told her she was talented and she always did well in cross country.
Once she joined Club Athlétique Belfaux, Werro started being coached by Christiane Berset Nuoffer and is still coached by her until this day now.
Favourite athlete
In 2023 Werro told European Athletics that her favourite athlete is French middle-distance star Renelle Lamote, who has three European Athletics Championships silver medals.
Werro said she liked how funny Lamote comes across on Instagram, and the two have now raced nine times in total with the Frenchwoman winning six of those races.
Chose against US colleges
In her last year of high school Werro would have attracted the eyes of many US Colleges due to her incredible performances on the junior international stage, however she chose to stay home instead.
“I prefer to stay with my club, my family, because I’m really (happy) in Switzerland,” she said in 2023.
Spooky encounter
Once when she was younger the Swiss star was singing in her room, alone, and she heard someone else also speak the words of the song.
The encounter left her to believe ghosts could be real.
Maiden Diamond League
On 30 June 2023, Werro made her Diamond League debut, placing sixth in Lausanne over 800m with 1:59.71.
Also in that race was the soon to be world champion Mary Moraa, and now very familiar rival and Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson.
World record holder - already
The talk may be about when Werro may break the 800m world record, however she already has a world record to her name.
In 2023 she ran 2:34.89 over 1000m at the Meeting Nikaia to break the world U20 record, which she still holds now.
Creativity off the track
Off the track, Werro’s biggest hobbies include reading and art with science books being her current interest, although that often changes.
But she also admitted that she doesn’t go a day without singing and her favourite song for karaoke is Rihanna’s Love On The Brain.
