Mondo Duplantis has made a name for himself as a global star, with fans travelling from far and wide in the hopes of seeing him break yet another world record.

At 26-years-old Duplantis has completed everything, he holds the world record and has won the Olympics, world championships and European championships – all multiple times.

But here are 10 things you may not know about him:

Mondo’s real name

To start, his first name is really Armand, but his nickname ‘Mondo’ comes from his dad’s best friend who would call him ‘Mondo Man’ when he was younger as the nickname means world in Italian.

So it really is a coincidence that he shares a name with Mondotrack, the track supplier used in many stadiums across the world.

Born in the USA

While Duplantis represents Sweden due to his mum being Swedish, he was born in Lafayette, Louisiana in America.

He has always chosen to represent Sweden, and speaks Swedish, with his success arguably making him the country’s biggest sports star of all time.

Sporty family

Duplantis grew up surrounded by a love of sport with is dad, Greg, and mum, Helena, having been a pole vaulter and heptathlete themselves.

His siblings also caught the love for sport, with his older brother, Antoine, even going to Louisiana State University where he became the team’s all-time leader in 2019 for baseball.

Johanna Duplantis, his sister, also still competes in the pole vault and placed fourth at the Swedish indoor championships earlier this year.

Part time musician

Duplantis lives an ever so Troy Bolton-esque double life, as the star also makes his own music and has released three singles.

He released his first track on the same day he broke the world record for the 11th time on 28 February last year.

Pole vault bed in childhood garden

As a kid, Duplantis was already developing his love for the sport due to having a pole vault bed in his very own garden.

This meant that pole vault was something he could, and would, just practice for fun at home.

Coached by his parents

Duplantis is coached by his mother and father, an incredible coaching partnership that has helped their son take over the athletics world.

Helena, Duplantis’ mum and strength and conditioning coach, is also particularly passionate about getting more women into coaching.

 Performed live

In February, while many athletes were opening their indoor season, Duplantis performed his music live for the first time.

He performed his newest song ‘Feeling Myself’, proving that there really is nothing he cannot do.

Proposed under Northern Lights

In October 2024, Duplantis proposed to his now fiancé, Desire Inglander, on the sandy beaches of The Hamptons.

After an already magical 2024 where he defend his Olympic champion title with a world record vault, a little more magic followed the couple as the Northern Lights sparkled after their engagement.

Iconic Halloween outfits

Duplantis and his fiancé always dress up for Halloween, but not in your usual couples’ costumes that you might usually see.

In 2025 they dressed up as Michael and Dwight from The Office, and in 2024 they took on the roles of two Olympic icons, Yusuf Dikec and Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn.

Short lived college life

In 2017, Duplantis confirmed that he would be attending Louisiana State University after graduating high school, just like his parents and brothers did so before him.

However he left LSU after his first year in 2019 to turn pro, having already been crowned senior European Champion for the fist time the year prior.
