Ivana Španović set an early-season world lead of 14.41m in the women’s triple jump at a Croatia v Serbia v Slovenia indoor meeting in Belgrade on Wednesday (28).
The long jump gold medallist from the Budapest 2023 World Athletics Championships began her transition to the triple jump last year.
This early-season marker in the fifth round, which is also the longest ever by a Serbian indoors, sets her up as a likely contender for the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships.
The Serbian national record of 14.56m has been held since 2009 by Biljana Topić, mother of world and European high jump medallist Angelina Topić. Slovenia's world and European indoor finalist Neja Filipič was second with 13.92m.
Two national U20 records on victorious night for Serbia
There were also two Serbian U20 indoor records in the middle-distance events.
Maša Rajić won the women’s 800m in a new best of 2:05.13 and Aldin Ćatović took the men’s 1500m in a new record of 3:47.40. Serbia won the match with 179.5 points, ahead of Slovenia (162) and Croatia (157.5).
