Zaynab Dosso became only the fifth European woman ever to break seven seconds for the 60m, scorching to victory in 6.99 at the Orlen Copernicus Cup in Torun on Sunday (22).
Despite four recalls, the Italian kept her nerve at the fifth attempt, clipping 0.02 off her previous best, which she set when winning gold at the Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Championships.
The performance was also an Italian record and a meeting record, and it gave her a share of the world lead with Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred. There was also a major breakthrough for world and European indoor bronze medallist Patrizia van der Weken, who finished second.
The Luxembourger clocked 7.01, improving her own national record by 0.05. Third place went to world 200m silver medallist Amy Hunt, who also set a new personal best of 7.04 at the final World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting of the year.
Guillemot sets another French record
It was a record-breaking evening in the Polish city for France’s European indoor champion Agathe Guillemot, who overcame a strong Ethiopian quartet to win the women’s 1500m in 4:00.64 — the fourth-fastest time in the world this year.

It was the fourth time Guillemot has set a French record during this indoor season. The victory will also boost her confidence ahead of 2024 world indoor champion Freweyni Hailu (4:00.67) and former world U20 champion Birke Haylom (4:00.92).
European indoor silver medallist Azeddine Habz completed a French 1500m double, winning the men’s race in a meeting record 3:32.56 — the third-fastest time in the world this year.
In a fast race, nine athletes secured lifetime bests, with second-placed Samuel Chapple of the Netherlands (3:32.68) and third-placed Sweden’s Samuel Pihlström (3:33.47) leading the chasing pack.

Belgium’s in-form Elliot Crestan won the men’s 800m in 1:44.07, ahead of Poland’s Maciej Wyderka (1:44.30) and Filip Ostrowski (1:44.72).
There was another Polish near-miss in the women’s 800m, as Anna Wielgosz was pushed into second place by Ethiopia’s Nigist Getachew, who won in 1:59.32.
However, Wielgosz, the reigning European indoor champion, had the consolation of a new indoor personal best of 1:59.47.
In the women;s 400m, Slovakia's Emma Zapletalova continued her impressive indoor form. The world 400m hurdles bronze medallist ovehauled Poland's European champion Natalia Bukowiecka to win in 50.90.
Three Polish wins
There was also a hat-trick of Polish victories courtesy of Paulina Ligarska (women’s pentathlon, 4,676 points), Jakub Szymański (men’s 60m hurdles, 7.48), and Maria Żodzik (women’s high jump, 1.98m).
European indoor champion Larissa Iapichino of Italy won the women’s long jump with 6.72m. The men’s pole vault was won by Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen, who cleared 5.85m.
In the women’s 60m hurdles, Switzerland’s world 100m hurdles champion Ditaji Kambundji continued her steady progress this indoor season, placing second to two-time world indoor champion Devynne Charlton by just 0.01 in a season’s best 7.78.
