World high jump bronze medallist Angelina Topić has been named Serbian Sportswoman of the Year.

The 20-year-old who shared bronze at this year’s World Athletics Championships in Tokyo with world record-holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine was chosen as winner by the Olympic Committee of Serbia and was presented with her award in Belgrade on Saturday (27).

Topić also won gold at the Bergen 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships and silver at the Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships in a memorable year for the young Serbian.

In winning a medal in Tokyo, she became only the third Serbian athlete ever to win a medal at the World Athletics Championships, following three-time world long jump medallist Ivana Španović and 2013 world 400m hurdles bronze medallist Emir Bekrić.

"Favourite" award

Topić was presented with the trophy by the Serbian Minister of Sports, Mr. Zoran Gajić.

"Behind every award and every medal there is a special story, and I can say that this one is my favourite,” she told the Serbian Olympic Committee website.

“I really earned this award with tremendous work and effort, not only mine, but the work of my entire team. In the past two years I have already won awards in the younger age categories, now I am glad to be able to take this most brilliant one.

“To be the best in the country of sports and to be the best in your discipline or in any sport in the world, it shows how strong sports are in our country, and how many quality athletes we have.

“These are people we can admire, as I have admired all my life. I am so glad that I am one of them."
