Eilish McColgan will join her fellow European record holder Andreas Almgren at the 10K FACSA Castellon on Sunday 22 February, organisers have confirmed.
The duo set new European 10km records at the 10K Valencia Ibercaja on January 11. Sweden’s Almgren set a new men’s best of 26:45 and Great Britain’s McColgan clocked 30:08 for a new women’s record.
They will return to Spain in search of more fast times and – given the right conditions – another attempt to re-write the record books.
Lukan added to mix
Also confirmed in the women’s race is European 10km bronze medallist Klara Lukan. The Slovenian ran the fastest 10km by a European woman last year in Castellon with 30:26.
Almgren, who had to race in Valencia solo from 4km onwards, will have the company of Ethiopian world U20 record holder Kuma Girma.
The 20-year-old was runner up last year, finishing in 26:58, 27 seconds adrift Ethiopian teammate and world half marathon record holder Yomif Kejelcha.
Plus, European 10km champkion Yann Schrub of France will be another threat. Foremer European 1500m champion Henrik Ingebrigtsen of Norway add further gloss to the men's field.
