European 5000m and 10,000m champion Nadia Battocletti wrapped up a brilliant season with victory at the Palio Città della Quercia meeting in Rovereto on Wednesday (8).
Racing over 1500m, the Italian thrilled her home supporters with another quality performance at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting, dipping under four minutes to win in 3:59.49. France’s European U23 silver medallist Adèle Gay was second in 4:02.12, with the USA’s Margot Appleton third in 4:02.17.
It was her 11th race victory of a packed year on cross country, road and track, which as well as her brilliant double at the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships, included world indoor 3000m gold.
Elsewhere, there was a surprise defeat for European champion in the men’s triple jump. His best mark was 17.00m (+0.3m/s), 30cm shy of winner Yasser Triki of Algeria.
Great Britain’s Yusuf Bizimana had a breakthrough victory in the men’s 800m, winning in a personal best of 1:43.31, while Ireland’s Sharlene Mawdsley won the women’s 400m in 50.58.
