Serbia's Elzan Bibic won the Belgrade Half Marathon on home soil on Sunday (23) morning in a national record and course record of 61:47.

Bibic became the first Serbian to break the 62 minute-barrier for the distance, improving the previous long-standing national record of 62:11 set by Janko Bensa at the 1998 World Half Marathon Championships.

This was the second time in as many weekends that Bibic has rewritten the Serbian record books after setting a national 10km record of 28:45 last Sunday. Bibic also holds all of his country's national records between 1500m and 5000m.

Belgrade will be the focus of attention among the European distance running fraternity on two occasions in the next 18 months. The Serbian capital will stage both the 2026 SPAR European Cross Country Championships as well as the second edition of the European Running Championships in April 2027.
