It has been a busy year for Slovenia’s Marusa Mismas - and it has not ended yet. Infact, there is nothing like good planning from an athlete, and that is exactly what she is doing.

Mismas, who celebrates her 21st birthday on Saturday, is counting down to the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Hyères on 13 December as part of a plan which will take her all the way through to next summer’s Olympic Games in Rio.

This past outdoor season saw her make her mark in May when she broke the national 3000m steeplechase record with a time of 9:35.10 in Bratislava, the eighth best by a European in 2015. She was then fifth in the final at the European Athletics U23 Championships in Tallinn after being eighth in the 3000m at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Prague in March.

Mismas also competed in the 3000m steeplechase final at the European Athletics Championships in Zurich 2014:

But it remains a busy time for Mismas, who on Sunday will run in the 10km race as part of the Ljubljana Marathon. It will give her a good test ahead of the SPAR European Cross Country Championships where, last year in Samokov, she was 11th in the under-23 race, and will remain competing in that age group in Hyères.

Beyond that, Mismas is also planning to compete in the 3000m at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in March and then run the steeplechase at the Amsterdam 2016 European Athletics Championships, with a place in the Olympic final as her target for the month after that.
