Romanian distance runner Ancuta Bobocel will skip the SPAR European Cross Country Championships next month and concentrate instead on the 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships.
“As for this year’s European Cross Country Championships, I will not participate, because I have other plans. I started training on November 1, slowly, slowly for next year; 1500m and maybe 800m indoors,” Bobocel told European Athletics.
Bobocel, now 23 and whose list of continental triumphs also includes the 2009 European Athletics U23 Championships 3000m steeplechase gold medal and also winning at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships as both a junior and under 23 runner, actually won the Romanian cross country title last month but on the back of almost no specific training.
The 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships will be held in at the Palais Omnisport Paris-Bercy arena, in the French capital Paris, between 4-6 March.
