European Athletics confirmed the dates of the 22nd edition of the championships on Tuesday after discussions with all the stakeholders.
European Athletics President Hansjörg Wirz said, 'We are very happy to confirm the dates of the European Athletics Championships in 2014. The sporting calendar in the summer that year is a very busy one and we have tried our best to make sure that athletics remains a focal point during that period. We hope that with careful coordination of other activities in Zurich in 2014 the event is fully embraced by the public of the city and beyond.”
The European Athletics Council unanimously awarded the championships to Zurich at the 125th European Athletics Council meeting in May.
Zurich will be the second Swiss city to hold European Athletics' flagship event after country capital Bern hosted the fifth edition of the championships in 1954.
European Athletics Member Federation Swiss Athletics launched in 2008 “Swiss Starters 2014 ”, with the aim of sending a team of 30 athletes to represent Switzerland at the 2014 championships.
The 2012 European Athletics Championships is scheduled for Helsinki, Finland, through 27 June to 1 July 2012.
