Femke Broeders-Bol will be making her outdoor 800m debut at the Ostrava Golden Spike meet on 16 June, but she won’t have it easy as newly-number-three all-time Audrey Werro will also take to the start line.

In February Broeders-Bol ran her first 800m since 2017 in her debut since announcing she would be swapping the 400m hurdles for the two laps, running 1:59.07 and setting a national record.

However she then pulled out of the rest of her indoor season plans to manage an injury.

While the Dutch star impressed in February, Werro is fresh off an all-time number three in the world run of 1:53.98 beating the Olympic champion, Keely Hodgkinson, in the process.

It will be the first time the two race over any distance, and with Broeders-Bol’s incredible closing speed it may need to be another fast race for Werro to take the win.

However the Swiss European U23 champion also has a fast 400m time, with her PB of 51.03 ran in just August last year, so if it does come down to a fast final lap, Werro could certainly more than hold her own.
