Hammer throwers Yann Chaussinand and Mykhaylo Kokhan both produced explosive new personal bests at the USATF LA Grand Prix on Saturday.
France’s Olympic and European finalist Chaussinand won the competition in Los Angeles with a brilliant third-round throw of 82.44m to also break the 26-year-old French record of Gilles Dupray by 6cm.
The mark added 53cm to his lifetime best from last year, and he underlined his excellent form with a fourth-round effort of 81.34m.
Olympic and European bronze medallist Kokhan also had plenty to celebrate. The Ukrainian produced a full set of valid throws that clustered around the 80-metre mark, culminating in a sixth-round effort of 82.38m to finish second.
The throw added 36cm to the personal best he set at last year’s World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, where he finished fourth.
USA’s Rudy Winkler was third with 80.43m.
