Simon Ehammer will compete in his first decathlon of the year after becoming the indoor world record holder for heptathlon in March.

He will compete in Brescia, Italy at the Multistars International on the 25-26 April for the second year in a row as he builds towards the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships.

Although he will face tough competition, including from the reigning European U23 champion Andrin Huber who is yet to compete in a full multi event this year.

Sweden’s Marcus Nilsson will also be competing in Italy and aim to edge closer once more to the 8000 mark, a milestone he has not surpassed for four years when he placed fourth at the Munich 2022 European Athletics Championships.

While Great Britain’s Niamh Emerson, the 2018 world U20 champion, leads the heptathlon rankings based on PBs. However, Emerson has not completed a heptathlon in competition since she won that title due to a string of injuries.

Sweden’s Lovisa Karlsson, is going in ranked second but will see a hard challenge from the Swiss duo of Sandra Rothlin and Mathilde Rey.
