The Germany city of Braunschweig and the Russian city of Cheboksary will host, respectively, the top leagues of the 2014 and 2015 European Athletics Team Championships, following decisions by the European Athletics Council over the weekend.

Braunschweig prevailed over Ostrava (Czech Republic) in the contest to host the top division of the 2014 championships, while Cheboksary was the sole bidder for 2015.

European Athletics President Hansjörg Wirz said, 'We congratulate Braunschweig and Cheboksary and look forward to excellent European Athletics Team Championships in the summers of 2014 and 2015.

Each city delegation made its final presentation to the European Athletics Council during its 133rd meeting at the weekend.

The 2-4 November Council meeting took place in Bucharest, Romania, at the Athenee Palace Hilton Hotel.

Other decisions taken at the Council included the following:

Commercial Strategy
The Council approved the main concept and proposals for a new commercial strategy and entrusted the head office to follow up on the work done by an external agency. The next step is to evalulate different agencies‘ suitability in terms of carrying out the commercial sales strategy in partnership with European Athletics.

Competition
The allocation of the 2013 European Athletics Outdoor Classic and Premium Meetings, Indoor Permit Meetings and Race Walking Permit Meetings were approved.

The Council also approved the calendar of events for 2013-2016.

The Council agreed to the concept proposal of the European Youth Championships that is foreseen to be held in 2016. It will be presented to the Congress in Skopje for final approval in April 2013.

Detailed information about the calendar, contacts and programme of events will soon be displayed on the European Athletics website.

Health & Well-Being
The Council approved the principles regarding the content for competitive and non-competitive activities in the domain of Health & Well-Being.

The Council approved the proposal to integrate the Mass Participation and Health & Fitness working groups into one group, which will be chaired by European Athletics Vice President Jean Gracia and called the Health & Well-Being Working Group. The new working group will present a detailed project plan and budget to the Council at its next meeting.

Sustainability
European Athletics’ ongoing sustainability drive will be spearheaded by its “Green Inspiration” brand concept, approved by the Council, which will be used to drive campaigns that inspire and recognise efforts contributing to the sustainability of events. The design concept and communication plan for the project will be developed.

The project will start with the 2013 European Athletics Indoor Championships in the Swedish city of Göteborg. It will then be rolled out to subsequent events in 2013 and 2014.
