Prince Radu invited President Wirz to address the assembled guests at the palace, which is the official residence of King Michael I of Romania.
“We are very honoured to be invited to Elisabeta Palace to be part of these very special celebrations to mark 100 years of the Romanian Athletic Federation,” said President Wirz. “Romanian athletics has a excellent history of success in the sport, and with this strong foundation can look forward to more achievements in the future as it works on the development of its young athletes.”
President Wirz and the Council also attended a Gala Evening on Friday to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Romanian Athletic Federation, where past national stars, including current Council member Gabriela Szabo, were honoured.
Ahead of the Council in Bucharest, President Wirz and European Athletics Director General, accompanied by Romanian Athletic Federation President Sorin Matei, met with Carmen Tocala, President of the National Authority for Sport and Youth in Romania, and Andrei Chiliman, Mayor of the 1st District of Bucharest, where the national federation headquarters are located.
