Less than one month after defending her 400m hurdles title at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships, Dutch superstar Femke Bol has announced that she is switching to the 800m.

The shock announcement was issued by press release on Friday (10) by her agents ProSports.

"Completely new challenge"

“The 400m hurdles has given me unforgettable memories and shaped me into the athlete I am today,” said Bol, winner of 11 European titles indoors and outdoors. “But I am driven by the need to push my boundaries.

“The 800m is a completely new challenge — one that excites me because it will require fresh strengths, strategies, and resilience. My ambition is not just to compete but also to reach and be successful at the highest level.”

The press release stated that Bol’s coaching and support team, sponsors and the Dutch Athletic Federation stand fully behind her decision.

He coach Laurent Meuwly commented: “Femke has always thrived on challenges. We believe her stride, strength, and mentality will allow her to adapt to the 800m and ultimately become a force on the global stage.”

The announcement concludes by promising Bol’s two lap debut to come next season.
