Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson rounded off her injury afflicted season with victory at the Athlos NYC meeting on Friday (10).
Having won bronze at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships in only her third competition of the season, she returned to action in New York and blitzed to a winning time of 1:56.53.
Her training partner Georgia Hunter-Bell, who won silver in Tokyo, was second in 1:58.33, ahead of St Vincent’s Shafiqua Maloney in 1:58.57.
Crazy atmosphere
"I've barely raced this season so it was probably less of a struggle for me to go out there and want to give it something," said Hodgkinson. "The atmosphere out there is crazy so it was really, really fun."
The unique women-only meet packed delivered an end of season party mood with live music and crowns replacing traditional winners' medals, presented by tennis legend Serena Williams.
In the women’s 400m, European U23 champion Henriette Jaeger was third in 51.24 behind Olympic gold and silver medallists Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic (50.07) and Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain (50.94).
