Bence Halász and Boglárka Takács were named Hungarian Athletes of the Year at the Gala Evening in Budapest on Friday (14). European Athletics President Dobromir Karamarinov was in attendance to present the prizes.
Halász won his third medal in the men’s hammer at the World Athletics Championships, taking bronze in Tokyo in September. It was a seventh major medal for the consistent thrower, who has also won three European medals and Olympic silver in Paris last year.

Sprinter Takács enjoyed a breakthrough year, the highlight being her sprint double at the Madrid 2025 European Athletics Team Championships 1st Division in which she also set new national records in the 100m (11.06) and 200m (22.65).
President praises "trusted partner"
In his speech to the audience of dignitaries, athletes, coaches, officials and administrators, President Karamarinov said: “I would like to congratulate all the athletes, coaches, and clubs represented here tonight.
"Your dedication and passion are the foundation of Hungarian athletics’ continued success. Behind every performance is a story of commitment, discipline, and belief – and tonight we celebrate that effort.

“European Athletics is proud to count the Hungarian Athletics Association as a trusted and capable partner. There is continuity in Hungarian athletics, embodied by President Miklós Gyulai.
“It is inspiring to see the clear and consistent progress that has resulted from his leadership. There is a legacy within Hungarian athletics, and this legacy is personified by Miklós, my friend.
“Together, we are building a stronger, more united, and sustainable future for athletics in Europe. Congratulations once again to all honourees this evening — you are an inspiration to Hungary and the entire European athletics family.”
