Sweden’s Ayla Hallberg Hossain jumped to the top of the 2025 European U20 list in the long jump at the Nordic U20 Championships on home soil in Uppsala, Sweden this weekend.
The 2022 European U18 champion won the title with a lifetime best of 6.57m. The 18-year-old will be seeking another major age-group medal at the Tampere 2025 European Athletics U20 Championships from 7-10 August two years after just missing out on the medals in fourth.
One of Finland’s principal medal hopes will be Mico Lampinen who won an unusual double in the hammer and discus. The 19-year-old won the 6kg hammer on Saturday with 73.10m before winning the 1.75kg discus - the event in which he won bronze at last year’s World Athletics U20 Championships - with a national U20 record of 62.74m.
With Tampere 2025 just over a week away, Lampinen sits eighth on the 2025 European U20 list in the hammer and fourth in the discus, the latter led by world U20 shot put champion Jarno Van Daalen with 66.31m.
Other highlights included Sweden’s Patricia Kamga, the younger sister of Swedish discus record-holder Vanessa, winning the hammer with 66.22m and Denmark’s Anna Juul Jenson winning the discus title with a national U20 record of 56.39m to move to second on the 2025 European U20 list.
