The Bassen Sprint meet in Bærum, Norway witnessed some standout performances from Norway's sprinting talents on the road to the Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships from 6-9 March.
Reigning European U23 champion Håvard Bentdal Ingvaldsen began his season with a commanding win in the 400m, clocking 46.84 for the two-lap event. As well as winning the European U23 title in 2023, Ingvaldsen twice broke the Norwegian 400m national record, which was previously held by world 400m hurdles record-holder Karsten Warholm.
Lithuania’s Gediminas Truskauskas won the 200m in 20.98, a national indoor record, while Mathias Hove Johansen showcased his speed by recording a personal best of 21.00. The latter also finished second in the 60m in 6.78, finishing just behind Per Tinius Fremstad-Waldron (6.71).
The Bassen Sprint is named in honour of the legendary Norwegian sprinter Carl Fredrik “Bassen” Bunæs who represented Norway in the 100m and 200m at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome and won a total of 18 Norwegian senior titles.
