There was a Swiss double in the sprint hurdles as Ditaji Kambundji and Jason Joseph saw off top class fields to take maximum points for the alpine nation at Madrid 2025 on Saturday (28).

There was a repeat of the Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships podium in the women’s race as Kambundji pipped Nadine Visser with Pia Skrzyszowska in third in a thrilling women’s 100m hurdles final.
Visser exploded from the blocks and held a slender lead over the Swiss athlete throughout. But Kambundji moved onto her shoulder off the final barrier and just out-dipped her Dutch rival with both athletes timed at 12.39. It would have been enough for a new championship record were in not for an illegal wind of +2.2m/s
Skrzyszowska didn’t really threaten up front, but safely banked third in 12.60.
Joseph wins for second successive time
In the men’s 110m hurdles race, Joseph made it a second successive victory at the European Athletics Team Championships, repeating his victory from Silesia 2023. It was a technically imperfect race with several hurdles clattered across the lanes, but the 2022 European gold medallist kept a cool head to win in 13.24.
European indoor 60m hurdles champion Jakub Szymanski of Poland held the early initiative with Spanish favourite Enrique Llopis also prominent. But Joseph and European champion Lorenzo Simonelli kept on the pressure and over the final three barriers kept their form better.
Simonelli was second in 13.27 and there was a strong surge from Great Britain’s Tade Ojura off the final barrier to snatch third in 13.36. A visibly disappointed Llopis was fourth in 13.40 with Szymanski in fifth, 0.01 further back.
