The project, offered jointly by the Göteborg 2013 organisers and the city of Gothenburg presents the young participants from 20 schools in the city with a series of challenges to solve in time for the first day of the championships (1 March). Week 8's challenge is to find the best way to prepare, physically and mentally, for a standing long jump competition.
When they have completed their tasks, the participants will attend the Friday morning session of the championships and discuss their ideas and suggestions with the event's ambassadors Kajsa Bergqvist, Erica Johansson, Carolina Klüft and Mattias Sunne Born.
The participating classes also have the chance to enter the draw to win a sports lesson with Swedish athletes Erica Johansson, Robert Kronberg and Christian Olsson.
'It is great that Gothenburg schools are using the championships and the athletics legends working with us to inspire the students and help them immerse themselves in the areas of physical education and health', says Lena Sjöstrand, project manager for Göteborg 2013.
'This is a unique opportunity that demonstrates how a major athletics event can contribute to social sustainability and add value to peoples' lives'.
The project has received the European Athletics' Green Inspiration label, which will be given to qualified activities inspired by the five main European Athletics championships in 2013.
Each championship host city will conduct a local campaign in which its citizens will be invited to design their own activities and request the label to recognise their efforts.
