European indoor silver medallist Henriette Jaeger headlines the women’s 300m on home soil at the Trond Mohn Games in Bergen, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting, on Tuesday (3) evening.
The Trond Mohn Games will be streamed live on the European Athletics website from 8.00pm CEST.
The Norwegian won the 300m at the rarely-contested distance last year in a super-fast 35.46 to move to equal second on the European all-time list alongside Great Britain’s Kathy Cook and just 0.01 behind Russia’s Irina Privalova whose European best of 35.45 has stood since 1993.
It has already been a busy season for Jaeger who also won bronze at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing and the multi-talented 21-year-old is expected to return to the Fana Stadium for the Bergen 2023 European Athletics U23 Championships from 17-20 July.
Ingvaldsen and Nordas also due to headline at home
There is a good prospect of a Norwegian double in the 300m as world 400m finalist and European U23 champion Havard Bentdal Ingvaldsen is due to contest the men’s 300m in Bergen.
Ingvaldsen will face a strong European contingent including Denmark’s Benjamin Lobo Vedel and Dutch veteran Liemarvin Bonevacia, the 2016 and 2024 European 400m bronze medallist.
World 1500m bronze medallist Narve Gilje Nordas steps up in distance to contest the 3000m in Bergen. Other notable entrants include reigning European U20 champion Jonathan Grahn from Sweden while former European marathon record-holder Sondre Nordstad Moen - who has also competed for Norway in the marathon at three Olympic Games - is also due to compete at the lower end of his range.
Recently crowned European 10,000m Cup winner Jana Van Lent will highlight the women’s 5000m where she could potentially become the first Belgian athlete to break the 15 minute-barrier for the distance. The 24-year-old ran a Belgian record of 15:02.78 on home soil in Brussels last month.
The 5000m line-up also features European 10,000m silver medallist Diane Van Es and 19-year-old multiple European age-group medallist Sofia Thøgersen from Denmark.
Other expected highlights…
A world class women’s hammer line-up has been assembled featuring in-form Finn Silja Kosonen - who won the European Throwing Cup with a national record of 77.07m - against reigning world and Olympic champion Camryn Rogers from Canada and 2022 world champion Brooke Andersen from the United States.
Fellow Olympic and world champion Ethan Katzberg from Canada faces a line-up including home favourite and 2020 Olympic silver medallist Eivind Henriksen in the men’s hammer.
Success Eduan, who ran the anchor leg of Great Britain’s victorious team in the 4x100m at the World Relays in Guangzhou, contests her first individual race of the season in the 200m. The line-up also includes fellow Brit Bianca Williams and Sweden’s Julia Henriksson.
Double European indoor relay champion Nick Smidt from the Netherlands contests the men’s 300m hurdles.
