Reigning European 10,000m champion Dominic Lobalu ran the joint fourth fastest time in history by a European to finish second in the Barcelona Half Marathon on Sunday (15) morning.
In a race won by Ethiopia’s Hagos Gebrhiwet in 58:05, Lobalu finished an excellent second in 59:26 to move to equal third on the European all-time list alongside Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa.
The only European athletes who have run faster for the half marathon distance are Julien Wanders who still holds the Swiss record with 59:13 and European record-holder Andreas Almgren from Sweden who has clocked 59:23 and 58:41 in his two attempts at the distance.
Just behind Lobalu, Emmanuel Roudolff-Levisse shot up the European all-time list by finishing third in 59:37. He also broke the French record held by Morhad Amdouni by three seconds to become the seventh fastest European in history at the distance.
This was Roudolff-Levisse’s second significant performance over the half marathon in 2026 after winning the Seville Half Marathon three weeks ago in 60:24.
In the women’s race which was won by Kenya’s Loice Chemnung in a course record of 64:01, Germany’s Domenika Mayer was the leading European finisher across the line in sixth in 68:08, a lifetime best by over one minute.
France’s Mekdes Woldu finished eighth, also in a lifetime best of 68:36.
