European Athletics & the Helsinki 2012 Local Organising Committee on Monday launched an innovative contest to design the logo for next year's European Athletics Championships.
Designers have been set with the brief on open-source platform www.boblr.com to come up with a fresh and compelling logo for the championships. The winner will claim a cash prize of €5,000.
The challenge is to design a fresh, modern and compact logo that captures the spirit of the event. The logo should be unique, and an empowering symbol that will capture the attention of the whole world.
The contestants have to submit their proposed logo by the 14 February 2011 at 12am (UTC).
Helsinki 2012 will be one of the biggest events ever organised in Finland.
It will be the sixth in a series of international track and field competitions in Helsinki over the years, the others being the Olympics in 1952, the 1983 and 2005 IAAF World Championships and the 1971 and 1994 European Athletics Championships. No other city in Europe has hosted so many major athletics events.
Finland has a proud tradition of athletics and the local organisers are confident that they will build on it by making Helsinki 2012 the greatest event yet.
