European bronze medallist Klara Lukan will be seeking another quick time as she competes in the Laredo 10k on Saturday (18).
The race in northern Spain is regarded as one of the fastest on the European road race circuit and the Slovenian may well have one eye on her national record of 30:26 set last year in Castellon.
Having set a new Slovenian half marathon best of 1:06:43 in Malaga last month, she returns to Spain in good form.
Lukan won bronze at the inaugural European Running Championships in Brussels-Leuven last year and is a proven performer on the roads, but she will face some tough competition.
The local challenge will be led by Spanish half marathon record holder Carla Gallardo and European U23 5000m and cross country champion Maria Forero.
The men’s race is headlined by Ethiopia’s Biniam Mehary who is one of seven men that hold a sub 28:00 PB for the distance.
However, he will be chased by Switzerland's Julien Wanders, European cross country medallist, and Great Britain's Rory Leonard, the 2023 European U23 10,000m champion.
The field also includes Spain internationals Abdessamad Oukhelfen and Javier Guerra, the latter has twice finished fourth in the marathon at the European Athletics Championships.
