World high jump record-holder and 2024 European Athlete of the Year Yaroslava Mahuchikh will compete at the Banskobystricka latka, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meeting, on 18 February.
The Ukrainian is planning a brief indoor season which will culminate with the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn from 6-9 March followed by the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing from 21-23 March.
Mahuchikh has been a regular visitor to Banska Bystrica over the years. She has won the high jump-only meeting three times since 2020 and cleared her indoor lifetime best of 2.06m - also a meeting record - in 2021. Another victory would equal Blanka Vlasic’s record of four victories in Banska Bystrica.
“I am happy to be back in Banska Bystrica. It will be one of my very few starts in indoor season. In winter, my goal is to win at the European Indoor Championships and World Indoor Championships. I am really looking forward to the usual great support of the Banska crowd,” said Mahuchikh.
Mahuchikh’s main rival in Banska Bystrica next February will be Serbia’s world U20 champion and two-time European senior medallist Angelina Topic from Serbia who won last year with a 1.97m clearance.
The 2025 Banskobystricka latka will be streamed live on the European Athletics YouTube channel. More details about the live streaming schedule for 2025 World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver, Bronze and Challenger events will be communicated in the middle of January.
