World champion Leo Neugebauer, will compete in his first combined events competition since winning gold in Tokyo, when he returns to Germany for the Deichmeeting in Neuwied on 16 May.

The German, who is currently based in Texas, will compete against the 2019 world champion annd 2022 European champion Niklas Kaul in the 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault and 300m.

While it is far from a full decathlon, it will also mark Neugebauer’s first competition back since becoming world champion in September.

Looking at their season’s bests from 2025, Neugebauer leads in three of the events and didn’t compete in the 300m last year.

Their closest event was the 110m hurdles with Kaul clocking 14.45 and Neugebauer with 14.41, however the former’s PB of 14.17 was only set in 2024 so could challenge his countryman.

While the women’s event will feature the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 150m, with anogther strong German contest. Sandrina Sprengel, who placed fifth at the 2025 World Athletics Championships at just 21-years-old, taking to the track.

Although, she’ll also be joined by Sophie Weißenberg who will be making her return after tearing her Achilles tendon at the Olympic Games in Paris.

In her absence, Sprengel has started her ascent to the top of German women’s multi-events, so this will ignite a tough ongoing battle between the two.
