Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye will return to the Nordhausen Indoor Shot Put Meeting to defend her title against USA’s two-time world champion Chase Jackson, and the Netherlands’ European silver medallist Jorinde van Klinken.

It’s almost a tradition for many of the world’s best shot putters to meet at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Challenger event every January, and this year is no different as Ogunleye looks to take the win on home soil for the third consecutive time.

However, Jackson returns to the city to disrupt Ogunleye’s three-peat plans, eyeing revenge on her 19.45m second-place finish to the German’s 19.57m at the same event in 2024.

Although the battle for the win will also extend to van Klinken, also the world and European silver medallist in the discus, who placed third at the event last year with 18.04m, as she is chasing to get back over the 19-metre mark for the first time since 2023.

Birmingham build up

This will almost certainly not be the only time Ogunleye and van Klinken will meet in competition this year as the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships loom, where fellow athlete and reigning world and European champion, Jessica Schilder, will be looking to win her third consecutive title.
