Hungarian Olympic champion Krisztian Pars will feature in the hammer, while in the women's 200m, Olympic 400m gold medallist Sanya Richards-Ross (USA) will take on Yulia Gushchina (RUS), also a 400m finalist in London.
Christian Taylor (USA), the Olympic triple jump champion, will also be competing.
Other Olympic medallists are Jason Richardson (USA) in the 110m hurdles, Timothy Kitum (KEN) in the 800m and Janay De Loach (USA) in the women's long jump, while women's 4x400m relay bronze medallist, Sherlika Williams (JAM) is the favourite in the women's 400m.
Hungarian star and record holder Marcell Deak Nagy will be hoping to do well in the 400m in front of a home crowd, while the high jump will see former world champion Yaroslav Rybakov (RUS) come up against former Olympic medallist Jaroslav Baba (CZE) and Olympic finalist Andriy Protsenko (UKR).
US sprinters Maurice Mitchell and Darvis Patton (silver in the relay in London) will fight for the top spot in the 200m.
Michelle Carter (USA), who came fifth in London, will be the firm favourite for the shot, while both the 3000m will have African favourites – Daniel Komen (KEN) and Edwin Soi (KEN) in the men's, Sylvia Kibet (KEN) and Meskerem Assefa (ETH) in the women's.
Linz returns as Gugl Games
On the same day as the action unfolds in Budapest, Linz will see its meeting return in its outdoor incarnation for the first time since 2007.
The Gugl Games, as the event is now called, will feature an impressive line-up including four freshly minted London Olympic gold medallists.
Kirani James (GRN) will run the 400m, once again against Olympic finalist 'Blade Runner' Oscar Pistorius (RSA), while Greg Rutherford (GBR), Olympic gold medallist in the long jump, will take on Irving Saladino (PAN) and Sergey Morgunov (RUS).
Michael Frater (JAM) and Bianca Knight (USA), both relay medallists, will compete in sprints.
Other Olympic medallists in action are Americans Justin Gatlin (USA) and Trell Kimmons, as well as Estonian discus thrower Gerd Kanter and Jamaican sprinter Sherone Simpson.
High profile clashes include Sergey Shubenkov (RUS) against Ryan Brathwaite (BAR) and Andy Turner (GBR) in the hurdles, with New Zealand's 2008 Olympic champion Nick Willis taking on Briton Michael Rimmer as well as a group of Kenyans in what is sure to be a highly competitive 1000m.
The shot put will be held in the city centre on Sunday, the day before the main event, with Americans Christian Cantwell, Ryan Whiting and Cory Martin battling it out for top spot.
