There was an overwhelmingly positive response to last September’s European DNA U20 Clubs, the Clash of the Clubs III in Pombal, Portugal, in depth research has revealed.
The European Athletics-supported format was subject to extensive surveys and interviews from participants and stakeholders in the development and delivery of DNA over several years.
The research comes five years after DNA was first launched, allowing for organisers to assess and review where the project stands and its future direction.
"Wonderful" atmosphere
“I think many athletes back home were following the competition online and I got a lot of good comments for my Instagram posts. I am happy I could still have two more years to compete in this event, if our team qualifies of course,” said one respondent in the feedback.
“The best thing was to go on to the infield to cheer for our team in ‘The Hunt’. Everyone likes being part of a team and the atmosphere in our club was wonderful. I really love the DNA competition, it’s different and it’s fun to do,” added another, praising the innovative approach tailored for younger athletes.
The 2024 event took place in Pombal, Portugal and with a thrilling finale, was won by Danish club Sparta Atletik.
A working group led by European Athletics Vice President and Competition Commission Chair Cherry Alexander is set to consider the findings and report on the role DNA can play in the wider objectives of Member Federations as they seek to increase the interest of young people in athletics.
