2024 European champions Natalia Bukowiecka and Wojciech Nowicki have been named as part of Poland’s team of 74 athletes for the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships from 10-16 August.
Bukowiecka won 400m gold in Rome two years ago in 48.98 to break Irena Szewinska’s legendary Polish record while Nowicki won his third successive European title in the men’s hammer.
Nowicki will be joined in the event by five-time world champion and 2016 European champion Pawel Fajdek who is back in form with a season’s best of 82.09m, his best throw in five years.
World record-holder Anita Wlodarczyk will be targeting a sixth medal in the women’s hammer. The four-time champion recently improved her world V40 record to 75.01m which was her longest throw since 2022.
Reigning European and world indoor 60m hurdles champion Jakub Szymanski will be seeking his first major medal in the 110m hurdles.
Other recent major medal winners who have been selected include 2025 world high jump silver medallist Maria Zodzik, European 100m silver medallist Ewa Swoboda and 2022 European champions Pia Skrzyszowska and Aleksandra Lisowska in the 100m hurdles and marathon respectively.
Poland won six medals at the 2024 European Athletics Championships in Rome, including two gold medals.
