The two-time European 200m champion and two-time world 60m champion, Mujinga Kambundji, is set to make her return to the track after giving birth in November last year.
Her return comes just in time to defend her 2oom title once more at the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships.
But her journey back from pregnancy has been far from easy, with the Swiss athlete admitting she struggled with remaining patient.
“It was nice to be away a bit last year and to take a year off and now I'm just so happy to be back, back on track with the little human next to me,” Kambundji said.
“It's exactly like with an injury, the first few weeks I took off just to recover and then I had almost like a rehab training for almost 10 weeks, and then I started again with the ‘real’ training.
“So it was okay, I was a bit impatient in the beginning. It took a lot of patience not to start again like before right away.
“But now I'm just happy to be back and it feels good and it's a nice challenge to just work on the body differently and have other challenges.”
In her time away, Kambundji enjoyed not having the same pressure on her that she does while competing, but she’s ecstatic to be ready to step back into the competitive environment.
For her, the Birmingham is also a special place to compete as she won her first world medal at the 2018 world indoor championships in that city, with a bronze in the 60m.

“I'm really excited to be back because I just love championships and that's the best part of our sport,” she added. “So I'm really looking forward to the European Championships.
“It's something really special, I always really liked it.
“But then especially in Great Britain, I always really liked racing in Great Britain and I have good memories from Birmingham in 2018 indoors. So I'm really, really excited to go back.”
It has been nearly a year since Kambundji last competed, with last year’s Doha Diamond League being her last competition, where she clocked 11.49 at around three months pregnant.
