Portugal have named their seven-member squad for the European 10,000m Cup on 23 May in La Spezia, with Mariana Machado leading the team.
The 2023 world university games winner, Machado, holds a PB of 32:27.06 for the 10,000m but on the road, she set a new national record of 30:58 in January.
She could be set to lower her PB once more as she makes her European 10,000m Cup debut and races outdoors on the track for the first time this season.
Samuel Barata leads the men’s side after lowering his 10km PB to 27:54 in April, but will be looking to chase down his track 10,000m PB of 27:48.62 from 2024.
Also heading to Italy is former European U20 finalist Duarte Gomes, the reigning Portuguese 10,000m champion Miguel Borges, Monica Silva, Rui Pinto, and Susana Santos.
