  • Six months to go! Countdown on to the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships

The countdown is officially on with six months remaining until the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships on 10-16 August.

To mark the occasion, European Athletics has launched the #OwnYourMoment campaign.

Unmissable

The campaign promotes the unique individual moments that collectively make the European Athletics Championships one of the unmissable sporting occasions of the summer.

Birmingham 2026 will bring together some of the world’s greatest athletes to compete for continental glory. It will be the first time in the event’s 92-year history that it has taken place in the United Kingdom.

It will also be the first time since Berlin 2018 that the European Athletics Championships have been held in a year that does not also include the Olympic Games or the World Athletics Championships.

Returning champions from the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships will include pole vault world record-holder Mondo Duplantis (SWE), Dutch star Femke Bol (NED) — in what could be her first championships at 800m — distance running superstars Jakob Ingebrigtsen (NOR) and Nadia Battocletti (ITA), Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson (GBR), high jump world record-holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh (UKR), and iconic discus thrower Sandra Elkasevic (CRO), who is chasing an incredible eighth successive title.

"Spectacular sport and unforgettable memories"

Dobromir Karamarinov, President of European Athletics, said: “With six months to go, the countdown is now truly on for the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships.

“The first few weeks of the athletics year have already given us a taster of what to expect this summer, and it promises to be a feast of world-class athletics from the very best athletes in Europe.

“We know there will be some spectacular sport and unforgettable memories made in Birmingham, and we encourage athletes to make the most of being on centre stage and to #OwnYourMoment.”

“Everything is on track for Birmingham 2026 to be one the greatest European Athletics Championships in our proud history,” said Christian Milz, CEO, European Athletics.

“With just six months to go, our partners at the Local Organising Committee have been making excellent progress in all areas.  This important landmark reminds us that excitement is building for what I am sure will be an incredible spectacle of athletics for all fans of our wonderful sport worldwide.”
